CONTACT US BELOW TO SIGN UP!
What: This workshop is designed for anyone on the journey from dissertation to book, wherever you are on the spectrum from I can’t even bring myself to open my dissertation file to My proposal was accepted and now I have to… write a book?!
By the end of our 6 sessions together you will have a keen understanding of where to start your revisions and a revised book proposal ready to send out to publishers (or, if you’ve already done that, a doable revision & writing plan to get you on track to submitting your manuscript on time).
Over these six weeks, you will:
- return to your dissertation and the feedback you received in order to clearly see what you’re working with
- work through challenges in your writing routine/process, acknowledging that the book is a different beast than the dissertation
- re-engage with the creative impulse behind your work through free-writes and guided exercises
- learn concrete revision strategies
- receive feedback from supportive peers
- dance a little
Why: The path from dissertation to book is often clouded in mystery. If you’re feeling unmotivated, unsure how to start, or overwhelmed by the task ahead, this is the workshop for you!

WHO WE ARE
Dr. Rima Praspaliauskienė: I am an anthropologist and writer. I live in Oakland, California. I hold a PhD in Sociocultural Anthropology from UC Davis. My research investigates the relationship between health, care, and money in post-socialist Lithuania in the times of neoliberal reforms. My work has appeared in Medical Anthropology Quarterly, Ethnologie Française, and the Somatosphere blog. Recently I transformed my dissertation into a book, Enveloped Lives: Caring and Relating in Lithuanian Health Care, published by Cornell University Press in November 2022.
Dr. Hallie Wells is a multi-disciplinary writer, editor, and writing coach. She holds a PhD in Sociocultural and Linguistic Anthropology from UC Berkeley, and her academic work bridges anthropology and poetics. She was a magazine editor in her pre-PhD life, and in her current editing and coaching practice she loves supporting scholars in making their ideas shine. She is a staunch advocate for karaoke, bike lanes, and the serial comma.
